Disturbance on KLM flight from Schiphol to Nigeria over man's deportation: Report

A KLM flight about to depart from Schiphol to Lagos in Nigeria was the scene of an altercation when a man was brought aboard in handcuffs. According to Nigerian media, the cuffed man was a Nigerian about to be deported because he does not have the proper papers. Other Nigerians aboard the plane would not stand for the man being chained like a criminal, Naij.com reports.

A video posted on social media shows people demanding that the man in handcuffs be removed from the plane. The crew and Koninklijke Marechaussee, a policing force that works as part of the Dutch military, initially refuses but eventually gives in as more people join the call.

The plane took off slightly later than scheduled, according to Nigerian media.

Why the man was being deported is unclear. A spokesperson for the Koninklijke Marechaussee was not aware of the incident when Het Parool spoke to him on Sunday afternoon. KLM could also not confirm the incident.

According to Het Parool, the KLM flight from Schiphol to Lagos left more or less on time on Sunday. On Saturday the flight was delayed.
